It all begins with a moment.

Towards the end of my internship experience at Moonlight Mountain Recovery, I was teaching a room full of twenty women about coping skills and strategies to help them with their mental health issues and I looked over and noticed a client drawing. As I approached her to see, she revealed the most beautiful scene of a landscape. I immediately knew I wanted her to draw my counseling business concept.

There have been many iterations of butterflies, metamorphosis, and “transformation” over the years as I sought to develop my concept for a future private counseling practice. The idea of a cocoon struck me one day and I knew it was exactly what I wanted to convey to future clients.

The caterpillar has no conceptualization of it’s future as a butterfly, and the butterfly has limited memory of it’s life before. The cocoon provides safety, and space to change without judgment of the past or the future. It is fragile, delicate, vulnerable yet brave, determined, and hopeful. Although the cocoon provides the space where change happens, helping to facilitate the caterpillar into its final form, it is actually the chrysalis (a hard shell that exists inside the caterpillar’s body the whole time) that is responsible for the change.

Cocoon Counseling Services merely serves as the safe, nurturing, holding space for you to reach down deep and find your inner chrysalis and transform into what you’ve always wanted to become, grow into your wholeness. We are not the antidote to your pain, we are merely the tool with which you find the strength and courage to rebuild your life however you see fit.
